FPPA Class of 1947
Coro Fellows Class of 1947 Reunion
Taking part in the Coro class of 1947 reunion marked a turning point for me in my own Coro experience. As the ’47 Fellows reminisced about their unique paths into the emerging organization, I was struck by how familiar it all seemed. Referred by friends or obscure ads in a newspaper, these individuals pursued the opportunity to join Coro with little real idea of what to expect.

Coro Donor Spotlight:
       John Barr

The question I am addressing is why my wife Suzanne and I donate our time and resources to Coro? Many non-profit organizations, including Coro, are struggling in this financial climate. My answer: the Coro Multiplier Effect. We believe that our time and dollars are being well spent.

Labor
The Intricate World of Labor Unions

Admittedly, the extent of my knowledge of labor unions was close to none. Throughout high school and even college, it was a blurry subject. Before my placement, my understanding of labor was marked by protests, railroads, and achieving labor laws like the eight-hour work day. Luckily, my placement at the California School Employees Association (CSEA) gave me a greater insight into the fascinating world of labor unions.             Susan Lieu, FPPA class of 2010

Water
California Water

To investigate the state of California’s water system, the Coro Fellows from San Francisco and Los Angeles took part in a short – but vitally important – tour in the North Bay, Sacramento, and Oroville regions. Sponsored by the Metropolitan Water District (26 cities and water districts in Southern California), the tour led us from the fragile ecosystems in the Delta to the gargantuan dam in Oroville.                                                 Matthew Beagle, FPPA class of 2010

Together Let's Green Coro
Green Team

Recently Fellows and staff met to discuss ways to move Coro towards more sustainable business practices. Our class’s “Green Team” presented first-step ideas, including utilizing composting in the office, purchasing compostable products, and offering pitchers of water at events instead of plastic water bottles. We also proposed posting some green tip reminders around the office, to inspire us all to turn our green aspirations into habits.

Green Tip
Green Tip

Our first featured tip is to print double-sided copies to save the environment and save money. According to the Clean Air Counsel, each year Americans trash enough office paper to build a twelve-foot wall from Los Angeles to New York City. Our first simple green tip is to set your default settings to print double-sided. Look for further tips posted around the Coro Office and in future issues of The Journey.
