Coro Welcomes Graduates from its Leadership Collaborative Program

May and June were the culmination of two of our Coro Leadership Collaborative programs. In May, we saw the graduation of the sixth class of the University of California San Francisco-Coro Leadership Collaborative. With the support of many Deans and Managers at UCSF, this program has been having an impact at the university for six years. This year, Susan Desmond-Hellmann, the Chancellor of UCSF, spoke to the graduating Coro class.

The end of June was highlighted by the graduation of the second class of the Nehemiah Emerging Leaders Program. The program is a collaboration between Coro, the American Leadership Forum and the Nehemiah Foundation. This year eighteen emerging leaders in the Sacramento region culminated a nine month program which focused on leadership development, networking and giving back. We are very proud to be part of this terrific effort to create the next generation of community leaders in Sacramento.

Coro would like to thank our individual, corporate, and foundation supporters for their generous contributions.

Exploring Leadership Program Updates

Logic Study
Honing in on the Logic of Two Dynamic Bay Area Communities

As their introductory exercise, the 2011 Class of Exploring Leadership Youth Fellows set out to determine the Logic of San Francisco’s Chinatown and Oakland's Fruitvale District during the week of June 21st. Despite seeming like an overwhelming task to accomplish in less than three days, the Youth Fellows were able to successfully research, hone in on key topics, and present on the logic of two dynamic Bay Area communities.

Youth Internships Placement Hosts - Thank You!

The Youth Fellows began their part-time five-week internship placements in the government, nonprofit, and business sectors on July 5th. We would like to thank the 36 different community partners for participating as internship hosts this summer. The community is Coro’s classroom, so the success of our programs – and the young people whom they serve – depends on these partnerships.   Please see a list of our internship partners HERE »

Alumni Spotlight:
Mock J Yung, EL 2000

I was a Youth Fellow in Coro’s Exploring Leadership program in 2000, following my junior year of high school. In eight short weeks, EL transformed my perspective about the future, setting me on a path to new heights. My school had a ten percent graduation rate; if not for Coro, there’s a chance I would have been one of the ninety percent. It was because of Coro that I not only managed to graduate, but went on to college.
