Coro Innovation Week

We began Innovation Week with some of the most creative people out there: Coro alumni! We kicked off the week at Big Tent in San Francisco, a company founded by two Coro alums. We learned how technology is used to build community. Big Tent gave us an important piece of advice, “trust yourself, use your intuition, and take risks”.       Matthew Beagle, FPPA class of 2010

Working at Fiona Ma's District Office

During my time at Fiona Ma’s District Office, I was given the opportunity to see firsthand how the District Director and field representatives work with the community to understand their needs. I attended events in District 12 where Assembly Member Ma wanted to show her community that she is attentive and supportive of their efforts.     Renita Nesby, FAPPA Class of 2010

Habitat Build Day
Habitat Build Day

We began the morning in East Menlo Park with bagels and a pep talk by AmeriCorps workers and Habitat for Humanity officials. To put it lightly, we had a strenuous day ahead of us. We were to paint approximately five rooms, including ceilings, with primer.   Tommy Owens, FPPA class of 2010

Oakland City Council
Coro Fellows Examine Critical Issues in Oakland

As an Oakland outsider, I came to the Oakland City Council meeting on October 6th with few expectations but with much intrigue. The Fellows and I had a brief induction to transportation issues through interviews with three leaders in Bay Area transportation the Friday before, so we were prepared with some background knowledge on the controversial issues.  Cici Vu, FPPA class of 2010

Bay Bridge Construction
Bay Bridge Construction Exploration

Early in the morning on October 9th, we traded our business shoes for goulashes, replaced our suit jackets with life jackets, and happily plodded down the dock for our Cal Trans boat tour. Thanks to Susan Lieu’s connections through her government placement, Cal Trans gave the Coro Fellows Class of 2010 the opportunity to learn about the Bay Bridge construction from a unique vantage point.                                        Jennifer Kern, FPPA class of 2010
