Mastery of Leadership Program

The Mastery of Leadership (MOL) program offers a new type of initiative for Coro St. Louis as it will focus specifically on General Semantics (GS), what it is and how to apply it.  It will provide participants with an entirely new framework from which to operate.  General Semantics was articulated approximately 60 years ago.  Over time, empirical data has strongly demonstrated the soundness and success of this discipline.  Even more exciting, new research on how the human brain functions has proven to support the major tenets of GS.  You can't get more cutting edge than that!

Primary Emphasis of MOL:

  • A comprehensive exploration and practice of General Semantics
  • Applying GS Principles and tools to professional and personal life
  • Coaching on the application and practice of the principles and tools

Outcomes for MOL:

  • Thinking and acting from a new frame of reference
  • Greater understanding of human functioning and dynamics
  • Being able to design and choose one's response and actions
  • Increased effectiveness in personal and professional relationships
  • Increased effectiveness in work and productivity

Program Components:

  • General Semantics - a new model of how human beings function and what makes that possible
  • General Semantics Tools - gaining mastery through practice and coaching
  • Effective Communication - the power and possibility of language
  • Learning and working at the level of perception - moving from insight to action

Who Should Participate?

The profile of the best candidate for the program is someone who:

  • Is open to learning and new perspectives
  • Ready to explore new possibilities and establish a new frame of reference
  • Willing to try new methods
  • Participate in an individual and group learning

Program Requirements

Women In Leadership, Fellows Program or a related course is a prerequisite for MOL.  What is important to note is that MOL is not an entry level program.  Participants must have a basic understanding of Coro Methodology, principles and tools.

As candidates have already gone through a selection day, there will not be a second selection day required.  However, candidates will be asked to comply with all the program requirements listed below.

Participants are required to:

  • Sign program promises re:  attendance, practice of principles and tools, etc.
  • Apply principals and tools to their personal and professional life between seminars
  • Debrief the practice and application of the principles and tools in the seminars
  • Read assigned articles between seminars and be prepared to debrief at the next seminar

Program Size

It is anticipated that the program will have 12-16 participants.

Program Schedule and Location

The nature of the program will be to offer specific principles and tools at each seminar which participants are required to practice between seminars and report on at the next session.  The practice of the principles and tools is essential to the success of the program.  Therefore, the construct of the program will be shorter, more frequent seminars.

For the fall of 2011, it will be offered from 6:30 - 9:00 p.m. on the following Thursdays:

  • September 8 and 22
  • October 6 and 27
  • November 3 and 17
  • December 1 and 15

The program will be held on the Maritz Campus, Fenton, MO.
