Coro Donor Spotlight:
Class of FPPA 2011
The Coro training room was the recipient of a much needed makeover this summer thanks to the unprecedented gift of funds, time, talent and toiling by the Coro Fellows class of 2011. The groups’ philanthropic efforts began during the program year, when they raised funds for a table at the Leadership Luncheon. When their prowess in fundraising yielded an excess in revenue, they proposed a makeover project for the training room.

I discovered Coro in a bookstore in Phoenix, Arizona. I had just returned home after two years guiding bicycle trips in the U.S. and Mexico. Working internationally opened my eyes to the complex relationship between government and its citizens, and I wanted to understand political systems and civic engagement more fully. Luckily for me, I found Coro in a book about America’s Top 100 Internships. It sounded perfect.

Coro Fellows Complete their Study of the Oakland City Council
The Fellows received a warm welcome in Oakland for their community study of the Oakland City Council. They presented their findings at the Oakland Chamber of Commerce on September 9 before an audience of City staff, Oakland community members and residents. Oakland City Councilmember and alum, Libby Schaaf, was a generous host in arranging their study and serving as an interview guest!
