CORO

Executive Director's Report

A belated Happy Fourth of July and Happy (Fiscal) New Year! As with many non-profit organizations, Coro Center for Civic Leadership ended its fiscal year on June 30th. I want to take a moment to reflect on this year’s accomplishments and share where we are headed in the new fiscal year.

In addition to graduating impressive classes from both Coro Exploring Leadership and Coro Fellows in Public Affairs programs, producing a successful Luncheon, and concluding four leadership programs with our Coro Partners (USCF Faculty, the City of Fremont Middle Managers, UC Davis Health Services Middle Managers, and the Nehemiah Emerging Leaders Program), we embarked upon and completed a three-year strategic plan.

The strategic plan, developed diligently by board and staff, clarifies Coro’s direction for the next three years. The plan focuses on three areas:

  • Grow/Develop Cross-Boundary Leaders

Coro seeks greater diversity among its program participants, staff and board. In order to reflect the communities in which we work, we will strive for greater ideological, cultural, racial and sexual orientation diversity.

  • Increase Impact through Partnerships and Networks

Coro seeks a new level of excellence and expanded impact through partnerships and networks. Shared access to the Coro curriculum extends Coro’s reach. Our partnership contract work diversifies our revenue stream while sharing our unique brand of leadership training.

  • Strengthen Coro Operating System (OS)

Coro seeks a new level of performance as it achieves a sustainable business model. Our focus is to continue to upgrade the Coro tools and experience.

Our guiding principles are to keep Coro competitive, insure a sustainable business model and concentrate on cutting edge leadership training.

Thank you all for your support, I am excited about our future. Working together, we will have a dramatic impact.

Exploring Leadership Staff Changes

A hearty thank you goes out to Amy Chan who, for five years, contributed so much to Coro. Amy was the driving force in building the Coro Exploring Leadership Program-- expanding its impact, raising its profile and broadening its support. Amy made the decision to move back home to Chicago to be closer to her family. She may be gone, but she is not forgotten. We thank Amy for all she accomplished with Exploring Leadership and for Coro.

I am pleased to announce that Amy’s partner in Coro Exploring Leadership, Ben Polansky, has been promoted to the Director of Youth Programs. As all of you who know Ben will attest, the program is in excellent hands. Ben is creative, dedicated and tireless. Please join us for upcoming Coro Exploring Leadership events, meet Ben and the Coro Exploring Leadership Youth Fellows, and be prepared to be impressed.

Alumni Advisory Council

One of the accomplishments of the past year has been the formation of the Coro Alumni Advisory Council. Supported by Coro staff, Yolanda de la Paz (FPPA SF ’09), Outreach Manager, and Minden Bennion (CLP ’03), Director of the Fellows Program, the Chair of the Alumni Advisory Council is Coro board member and Coro alum, Rosa Terrazas (FPPA SF ’06). You will be hearing from the council as it creates opportunities for alumni engagement. Thank you Rosa, Yolanda and Minden, and Alumni Advisory Council members:
