CORO

Coro House Parties

By Lucia Choi-Dalton, Board of Directors

As co-chair of the Coro development committee, it has been a pleasure to work with my creative, thoughtful, and engaged committee members this year. We want to actively communicate with our 1,200 alumni in the Bay Area, field faculty, donors, and friends to provide meaningful venues to seek their input and suggestions.

With our new Executive Director, Susan Shain, we wasted no time shifting into high gear, brainstorming with our development team on a number of "engagement initiatives".

Just two weeks ago, we launched the first of a series of house parties. Fellow board member, Eric Casher, and I hosted over 40 people at my home. Attendees had an opportunity to meet Susan, a few of the 2009-10 Fellows, and some of last year's Exploring Leadership graduates. While Susan talked eloquently about her immediate plans for the organization, the Fellows impressed our guests with their multi-faceted experiences. We were also heartened to see the Youth Fellows exuding such confidence and hope for their future and for their communities.

We recognize that the Coro Community is spread throughout the Bay Area, and beyond. In the months ahead, we look forward to inviting you to attend a house party in your region. These informal gatherings are a great way to meet other interesting people who share a commitment to helping shape the new leaders of tomorrow.
