Surveys and Polls
In 2005, the Coro Alumni Liaison Committee (CALC) of the Coro National Board of Governors created the first on-line survey of Coro alumni attitudes and opinions. CALC is led by the Coro National Alumni Association (CNAA) and includes representatives from every center. Centers distributed the on-line survey and invited feedback from all national and regional Coro program participants.
Program
54% of the respondents participated in the National Fellows Program for Public Affairs and 46% in regional programs at Centers nationwide. Of the regional program respondents, 17% participated in women’s leadership programs; 10% in Summer Programs; 7% in local community/neighborhood programs; 3% in profession based programs; 2% in youth programs; 1% in ethnicity-based programs; 12% in other regional programs.
Year
44% of the respondents completed their Coro training in the years 2001-2005; 20% in the years 1996-2000; 18% in the years 1986-1995; 3% in the years 1966-1975; and 2% in the years 1956-1965.
Respondents reflected a fulfillment and pride in the Coro experience—96% were satisfied with their Coro experience (68% very, 28% somewhat), 94% are likely to recommend Coro to others (73% very, 21% somewhat), and 96% said Coro enhanced their knowledge and perspective (73% strongly, 23% somewhat). Coro alumni are putting this enthusiasm to work—in the six months preceding the survey, 90% of those responding had donated time to a civic, political, advocacy, religious or charitable organizations.
The survey asked multiple questions about how Coro communicates with them and how they interact with Coro, with the goal of discerning how Coro can continue to be valuable to alumni. Results included the following:
The survey results did skew young in terms of respondents’ age and year graduated from Coro, but the number of results (588, or 5-10% of all alumni) skewed high for a first-time survey. As a result, CNAA acknowledges that the survey results do not represent the full spectrum of Coro alumni and must be considered with this in mind. A survey scheduled for 2006 will need to address distribution to alumni from earlier graduation years who are older in age.
The Coro National Alumni Association has taken these results into consideration in its creation of goals and projects for the current 2005-2007 CNAA Board of Directors. Please watch the Coro website for upcoming events and opportunities with CNAA and the Coro Centers that address all of these results, or contact us with your questions or feedback – cnaa@coro.org.
