Coro Fellowship in Public Affairs Develops Innovative Leaders
Coro Pittsburgh welcomes its eleventh class of the Fellows Program in Public Affairs.
Pittsburgh, PA- This week, twelve talented young professionals from across the country will come to Pittsburgh, where they will spend the next nine months immersing themselves in the city through Coro Pittsburgh’s Fellowship Program in Public Affairs.
After a rigorous selection process, the twelve Fellows have been chosen to complete this intensive experiential learning program. The Fellows Program in Public Affairs (FPPA) is unconventional by traditional academic standards. During the course of the fellowship, participants will engage in placements, seminars, group projects and individual coaching.
Placements occur in government, non-profit and business organizations, allowing the Fellows to gain experience across all sectors. During their placements, the Fellows complete projects that enable partner organizations to pursue strategic opportunities, improve critical processes, and implement industry and sector best practices.
City Council President Doug Shields states, “I've had the distinct pleasure of working with Coro Fellows over the past ten years. They are bright, dynamic people dedicated to the task at hand. They've provided my office with excellent work on a host of issues - from what to do with a closed high school building in my Council District to legislative work on domestic violence in the ranks of police officers. Knowing that there are such talented young people ready to assume the responsibility of leading our government, businesses and institutions gives me confidence in the future of our country.”
For 10 years, this nationally recognized fellowship has been attracting talent to Pittsburgh. More than 100 individuals have completed the program in Pittsburgh, and many have chosen to remain in the region.
The new class of Fellows will give their first public presentation on Friday, August 14, 2009 at the Social Innovation Fair. The Social Innovation Fair is free and open to the public, and seeks to provide relevant scalable ideas for all sectors to solve community problems.
