Why Leadership New York?

Leadership New York is designed to cultivate the skilled, astute individuals needed to affect change in NYC: those prepared to grapple with the political, economic, and social factors influencing public decision-making; examine how race intersects with policy; expand their learning and development; and forge an enduring personal and professional network with peers in New York City’s public, private, and non-profit sectors.

Leadership New York participants will:

    • Gain an insider’s view of how NYC’s government, political, non-profit, corporate, and civic institutions intersect and shape policy decisions

    • Interact with key players from across sectors to examine different approaches to leadership and obtain multiple perspectives on critical issues facing the City

    • Learn to ask probing questions, be exposed to new ways of thinking, and uncover innovative solutions

    • Develop their ability to communicate, build consensus, and make decisions effectively in a diverse group

    • Expand their network with a range of colleagues working in the public, private, and non-profit sectors

Participants join an unparalleled network of over 800 Leadership New York alumni, among whom are City Commissioners, CEOs, community activists, journalists, business and social entrepreneurs, and other key players in the public arena.

Who Participates >>

Coro taught me the intricacies of how government works. I have been able to use that knowledge to improve my ability to research, plan, organize, and execute. I learned that every issue I could conceivably encounter could be approached a number of ways. Most of all, I realized that with leadership comes responsibility. I know I am better equipped to effect positive change.

Deputy State Director, U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer
