Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the difference between a Strategy Day and a Personal Leadership Day?

A Strategy Day is an entire weekday of events planned with the intention of gaining a deeper understanding of an urban policy issue in New York City and how it relates to immigrant issues. With insight from participants, the ICLP staff design and orchestrate a daylong exploration into an immigration issue, including relevant speakers, site visits, and interactive activities, allowing participants to investigate the issue from varying perspectives.

A Personal Leadership Day is a full Saturday devoted to building participants’ personal leadership skills, helping them gain clarity of purpose and vision, communicate more effectively, and understand their own personal leadership styles. The entire day is generally spent within the context of the ICLP cohort.

2. What subject areas are covered on Strategy Days?

The themes of the Strategy Days vary from year to year. However, all participants will cover the Finances of New York and the Media in addition to other hot-button topics surrounding immigration policy in New York City.

3. What is the commitment?

The ICLP runs from July-November 2010. The schedule amounts approximately to 100 hours (13 days) of training, including an orientation, an opening retreat in July, one weekday and one Saturday session per month between July and November, a required 360 Degree Feedback Survey, and a final evaluation and graduation session in November. Attendance is mandatory at the opening retreat and final evaluation and graduation session. A participant will be asked to withdraw from the program if s/he misses more than one Strategy Day or more than one Personal Leadership Day.

4. How much is the tuition for ICLP?

Participation in ICLP is based on a sliding scale fee in accordance with the annual operating budget of a participant’s employer. Please consult the Application Supplement for more details of the fee structure.
