Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the difference between a Strategy Day and a Personal Leadership Day?

A Strategy Day is an entire weekday of events planned with the intention of gaining a deeper understanding of an urban policy issue in New York City and how it relates to immigrant issues. With insight from participants, the ICLP staff design and orchestrate a daylong exploration into an immigration issue, including relevant speakers, site visits, and interactive activities, allowing participants to investigate the issue from varying perspectives.

A Personal Leadership Day is a full Saturday devoted to building participants’ personal leadership skills, helping them gain clarity of purpose and vision, communicate more effectively, and understand their own personal leadership styles. The entire day is generally spent within the context of the ICLP cohort.

2. What subject areas are covered on Strategy Days?

The themes of the Strategy Days vary from year to year. However, all participants will cover the Finances of New York and the Media in addition to other hot-button topics surrounding immigration policy in New York City.

3. What is the commitment?

We expect a high level of commitment from each participant of the Immigrant Civic Leadership Program. The program runs from January to June, and attendance is expected at all sessions: Strategy and Personal Leadership Days and an Opening Retreat. Participants who miss more than two sessions will be asked to withdraw from the program.

4. How much is the tuition for ICLP?

The tuition for the program is based on a sliding scale, ranging from $500 to $2,000 based on the annual operating budget of the participant’s organization. Tuition is non-refundable.

5. Who do I contact if I have questions?

Interested individuals can sign up for the ICLP mailing list and receive periodic program updates as well as details on upcoming information sessions, where they will have the opportunity to hear from past and current program participants about their experiences in the Immigrant Civic Leadership Program.

Questions about the program can be directed to Mona Chun, Director of Outreach and Communication, at mchun@coronewyork.org or (212) 248-2935 ext. 305.
