Youth Alumni Programs
The purpose of the youth alumni programming is for graduates of Exploring Leadership to reinforce their commitment to civic leadership while helping to shape and strengthen the program.
The specific goals of the Coro EL Alumni program are for alumni to:
Throughout the year, former Youth Ambassadors are provided numerous opportunities to stay engaged in civic life:
Civic Leadership Enrichment Sessions – A series of 4-6 Saturday or weeknight evening sessions that build upon each other sequentially, including workshops on advanced leadership skills (e.g. informational interviewing) and activities related to advanced civic participation (e.g. canvassing, political events, youth leadership conferences). Enrichment sessions are open to all alumni who wish to participate.
Mentoring Program – Mentoring relationship with one of the 12 post-graduate Coro Fellows in Public Affairs to help enhance civic leadership skills, gain access to a wider range of opportunities, and work towards future goals. The Mentoring Program runs from Fall through Spring and is open to all alumni who wish to participate.
Youth Advisory Board (YAB) – A selected group of 6-8 EL alumni that assists in planning and recruiting for Enrichment Sessions and Mentoring Program activities, helps continue work on prior Community Action Projects, and supports the current cohort of Youth Ambassadors. YAB meets monthly during the academic year.
Summer Youth Interns – Two EL alumni selected as summer interns for the current cohort of Youth Ambassadors, assisting in facilitating activities, teaching lessons, offering feedback and supporting the Youth Ambassadors and Program Facilitators as needed. The Summer Youth Interns also work on two projects that support the Exploring Leadership Alumni program. In 2007, they created an EL Alumni MySpace page and planned the first EL Alumni event.
